Les Invalides

A new year, a new trip and a new perspective

January 5, 2013.

Returned less than 24 hours ago from a two and a half week trip to London and Paris. Turned 50 on Christmas Eve in Paris and rang in the new year walking between the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Elysee. Paris was the first city we visited in Europe, in 2008.  I love it.  I don’t know if I’d want to live there permanently, but it is so romantic.  At night the Tower lights up every hour on the hour, sparkling for 5 minutes. There is music in the Metro tunnels, from solo guitarists, keyboard players, and even a full band of what I believe were Polish immigrants.  80% of the population is brunette, unlike LA where everyone is either blonde or trying to be. We spent two weeks there, walking every day from neighborhood to neighborhood, finding wonders and delights.
